Adopt a cat

Offering a cat a new home is always a big decision, especially as many cats now live into their late teens and early twenties!  A cat is for life and should be seen as a long-term commitment.  Each cat or kitten has its own personality and needs, and they can make wonderful companions and very rewarding pets.

If you have decided to bring a new cat into your life, please contact us, or come for a visit.  We are open between 11am and 4pm everyday, with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing day and New Year's Day.

Before going to a new home, every cat in our care is:

- Fully health-checked by a vet.
- Treated for fleas and worms.
- Vaccinated.
- Microchipped.
- Neutered, depending on age.
- Homed with 4 weeks free pet insurance.

The average cost of looking after a cat in our care can reach well over £150, and that doesn't include any neccessary treatment.  Cats Protection recieve no government funding and therefore rely solely on members of the public to ensure adoption centres like ours can continue their work.  For this reason, we now ask for an adoption fee of £50, and any donations are gratefully received!

The Adoption Process

On arrival, our receptionist will ask you a few relevent questions, and ask you to fill in a home-visit form.

If you choose to look around the Centre before your home-visit, please be advised that we cannot reserve a cat before the home-visit has been carried out.  Each cat has its individual needs, and not every cat will suit your specific environment.
Take plenty of time to look at the cats.  Staff are always available to give advice and information about them, and we want to make sure the cat you take home is the right cat for you

The home-visit is a short visit by our staff, to make sure the cat you take home is right for you.  It's also a good chance to ask questions and discuss what kind of cat you are looking for and discuss the ins and outs of homing a CP cat.

If you are in rented accomodation, a tennancy letter is required from your landlord or housing association giving permission for you to keep a cat at the property.  It must also state how many animals are allowed at the property.  We cannot carry out a home-visit, or reserve a cat before we have this.

When you come to collect your cat, please have a suitable secure carrier!
