Feral cats, and cats' cats...
Part of our work at Cats Protection is dealing with 'feral'cats. Recently we have been helping several farms and businesses where the feral cat population has got out of hand. Many of these cats have been trapped, neutered and released (TNR), but in a few cases the cats had to be removed from the land, which has meant us searching for new homes for them.
These cats are 'feral': they have had little contact with humans and do not seek human company or a domestic home. Some of the cats might become more friendly in time, but more often than not, they simply wish to be cats! They make great friends for other cats; they just don't want the human touch!
Feral cats do not cope well in a pen environment, and for this reason we are keen to find outdoor homes. If you have a barn or out-building that is sheltered, and are prepared to leave some food out and keep an eye on the cats' well-being, please, please contact us!
This is Grouse. He and many of his siblings were recently rescued and brought to Axhayes. They were born to feral parents, but because they were rescued at a young age, they are getting used to humans and are now beginning to enjoy being stroked. We are sure they will become lovely pets, but when they go to a home, they will need a little time and patience to settle and get used to being in a house with a family...imagine if you'd never seen a TV before, and Rambo was on! It is very rewarding when a shy kitten comes out from under the bed to play with a feather with you! If you are interested in adopting one of these little sweethearts, please call us on 01395 232377. Please note, these cats do not have to be homed in pairs as long as you have another young cat at home!
