What we do

Rescue cat
  • Cambridge Cats Protection takes in stray and unwanted cats, rehabilitate them and re-home where possible.
  • Cambridge branch does not have a shelter. All the cats in our care are looked after by a team of dedicated fosterers in purpose-built pens in gardens or in rooms in the fosterer's own home until a new home can be found for them.
  • We never put a healthy cat to sleep. We also feed about 80 ferals in the area and encourage both neutering and microchipping.
  • Cambridge Branch is run entirely by volunteers and is dependent on the generosity and goodwill of our supporters.

More about what we do:
Sadly many people will abandon their cats to fend for themselves without a second thought. On one occasion we received a call from a person saying that they were moving at the end of the week and that if we didn't come and pick up their cat, the dear little thing woudl be simply dumped on the street.
Fortunately we have a marvellous team of volunteers who spring into action on receiving such a call.
Anne, our incoming cats officer, is in charge of the waiting list and is the first point of contact in such a situation. She will them find a place with one of our many fosterers who are always there for us at the drop of a hat to provide a warm, cosy bed and more importantly a cuddle and a friendly face.
Many of these animals are in desperate need - injured, frightene, hungry and/or abused. Often we have taken on numerous kittens at a moment's notice, often having to bottle feed or nurse sickly orphans throughout the night. Our fosterers will help rehabilitate them whilst Ashley, our homing officer has the hard job of finding them a wonderful new home.
Every home is checked first to ensure it is suitable. Ashley then has to match the cat or kitten with their potential owner and arrange the all-important first meeting.
We always have cats and kittens of all shapes and sizes waiting for homes - do take a look at Adopt a Cat and contact Ashley for further details.
