How to Adopt & Adoption Form

How to Adopt?
Before contacting us PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE ABOUT ADOPTING A CAT OR KITTEN FROM US! Please be aware that we do not have a main shelter, but all the cats in our care are taken care of by our team of volunteer fosterers who foster a cat until we find them a home.

Complete the ADOPTION FORM and email back to our Rehoming Officer. Please note the information about our current Adoption Fee on this form. If you are unable to open this form (Word Doc) please email our REHOMING OFFICER

What happens next?

Each cat or kitten has its own personality, likes and dislikes.  At Cats Protection we aim to match the purfect cat for you, your family and your home environment.  Once we've received your enquiry, our Rehoming Officer will give you a call or email you and we will make arrangements to carry out a Home Visit.

For further information on HOME VISITS, download our leaflet by

Due to our limited resources, we can only rehome in our local area - Canterbury and its surrounding rural areas, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and surrounding areas, unless a home check via another CP branch or animal welfare organisation can be arranged. With co-operation from other branches and by having some loyal volunteers just outside our area (perhaps while reading this you may consider becoming a Homechecker Volunteer? We have rehomed cats and kittens further afield, so it is worth contacting us, but sometimes it just is not possible

Adoption Fee
Cats Protection now ask adopters for a fee when rehoming a cat, the Canterbury Branch fee is similar to many over CP branches in this area. If you want to find out more about the Adoption Fee then please download our leaflet (see below). However, if you feel able to make a donation on top of that fee, that would of course be gratefully received.   We know times are hard so thank you for your decision to rehome a CP cat!  You will find more details on the Adoption fee outlines on the Adoption Enquiry Form.

CP Welfare Standards
Prior to rehoming, all cats and kittens are vet checked, flea and wormed, blood tested (if appropriate), vaccinated including for FeLV (unless we have been given veterinary advice not too)  neutered and microchipped (if they are old enough). This costs us around £70.00 per cat or kitten, and can be more if other treatment is required. All cats & kittens rehomed by us (with no maximum age limit) come with four weeks free insurance cover, this costs you nothing, but gives you some peace of  mind during the first few weeks that you take on a cat or kitten.

Advice and Support
We may carry out a Follow-up call a few weeks after homing just to ensure that everyone is still happy, but we are of course still available afterwards, to offer any help and assistance.  Just give us a call.
