What We Do

Chatteris, St.Ives and District Branch was formed in 1997. We cover a wide area of Cambridgeshire from Huntingdon and St Ives through to Chatteris and March in the Fens.
A large portion of our work is with feral (wild) cats in this largely rural area, advising the public on how to manage the colonies in their areas. This is often done by trapping them, taking them to be neutered by a vet, and then releasing them back into the colony. This reduces the population by preventing any more kittens being born and eventually the numbers will reduce naturally.
We care for stray and unwanted cats and kittens, taking them in to be cared for by a fosterer until a new loving home is found for them. We can only home cats to addresses in the following postcodes: - PE15, PE16, PE17, PE18, PE26, PE27 and PE29.
Solely volunteers who do fostering, fundraising, administration, publicity and many more jobs run this branch. We receive a small grant from Cats Protection each year but have to raise the rest of the money for the branch through fundraising. The amount raised determines how many cats we can help each year and we often have a waiting list of cats needing to be taken in but who have to wait until a lucky rescue cat is re-homed before this can happen.
