The Derby and District Branch was formed in 1968 and held its inaugural meeting on the 29th of March that year.
The Branch covers a vast area with a population of approximately 400,000 and an estimated 200,000 cats.
We have facilities to care for cats and kittens in our foster homes, and these are always full.
The Branch is a self-funding, voluntary, registered charity functioning
within the rules and bye-laws as set down by the National body based in
East Sussex.
The Branch is
not part of the Cats Protection Shelter at Dalbury Lees which is wholly owned and run by Headquarters at Horsham, West Sussex.
The Branch is self-sufficient and we raise all our own funds to so we
can carry out our welfare work. Funds are raised by membership fees,
donations, events, legacies and our two charity shops.
Derby and District covers both urban and rural areas, both presenting many challenges.
The Branch has a membership of approximately 430.
A Branch Committee, headed by the branch co-ordinator, determines the
policies of the Branch and meets 12 times a year to consider financial
matters, discuss welfare issues and transact business.
As one of the 250 Branches of the Cats Protection we always strive to care for cats.
The aims and objectives of the Branch are, and always will be:
- To help cats and kittens in need by providing food, shelter and veterinary care
- To rescue and rehabilitate cats and kittens and subsequently rehome them
- To operate an active neutering and spaying policy
- To offer help and advice to cat owners where possible
- To educate children in the care of cats and kittens
