TV presenter Becky Jago gives start treatment to unwanted moggies

TV presenter Becky Jago rolled up her sleeves and got stuck in by volunteering at a local cat charity ahead of Volunteers Week which runs 1-7 June 2011.

Anglia Tonight presenter Becky visited Cats Protection’s Adoption Centre in Dereham, Norfolk on 26 May as part of the charity’s campaign: I’m A Celebrity…Let Me Volunteer! She helped with some of the tasks that volunteers face every day such as grooming and feeding cats and kittens and meeting potential adopters.

Becky Jago said, “I’ve had a brilliant time helping out at this Cats Protection centre today – caring for adorable cats and kittens is a fantastic way to spend some free time! Animal welfare is close to my heart and I’d urge anyone with an interest in contributing to this valuable work to give some of their time this Volunteers Week.”

Cats Protection’s Dereham Adoption Centre is appealing for people who love cats and fancy a new challenge to give whatever time they can spare to the charity.  People from all walks of life are being encouraged to contact the centre which carries out essential cat welfare work in the area.

The Dereham Adoption Centre has 50 dedicated volunteers filling a variety of roles. They currently care for over 60 cats and kittens, but more help is always needed.

Paul Hannant, Deputy Manager of the Dereham Centre, said “Volunteering for Cats Protection is a fun and rewarding experience, particularly if you have a skill that would benefit the charity or would like to develop new skills by taking on a fresh challenge. Our volunteers gain a great deal of satisfaction helping cats get a second chance in life.

“We work hard to match people’s skills, interests and availability to the roles on offer so if you have something to contribute, please get in touch!”
