True feral cats are the offspring of stray or abandoned domestic cats. They live wild in towns, cities or rural areas & may have had little or no contact with humans.  As a result they are often scared of people & will avoid them.

Some people consider feral cats as pests.  But many more, particularly farmers, stable owners & smallholders, value them as working mousers who protect valuable grain or feed.  They are perhaps one of the most environmentally friendly means of pest control.

As a rural adoption centre we often find cats in our care that are not suitable as domestic pets and so need working homes.  If you are looking for working cats or maybe feel you have an outbuilding or similar to offer a feral or two a home, then please contact the adoption centre.  All feral cats homed from Downham Market Adoption Centre receive the same care & treatment as domestic cats.

Here at Downham Market we are currently working on a colony of 60+ feral cats, so are indesperate need of suitable new homes for our working cats.
