We always have cats in fostercare that are very shy towards visitors. This is making them very difficult to rehome as people walk past their pen and when they don't come running out the door to greet them say "This is not the cat for me". These cats are quite affectionate towards their fosterer but given time and patience by new owners, they could would become treasured members of the family if only they were given the chance.
