What we do

Map of Oxfordshire showing postcodes we coverWe are a group of volunteers who do what we can to help cats in need in south and west Oxfordshire, and Vale of White Horse.

We cover these postcodes: OX1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 20, 28, 29, 33, 44, 49 and SN7. However, if you are outside the area and aren't sure who to contact, let us know, and we will put you in touch with the appropriate branch of CP.

RE-HOMING CATS: Cats and kittens come to us for many reasons; owners moving and unable to take the cats, homes breaking up, a death, increasingly, abandoned cats, strays and overcrowding. The cats are cared for at the homes of our volunteer fosterers, some in sheltered, heated Cat Cabins, some in internal rooms and a lucky few have the run of the home. We do our best to find suitable homes for most of these cats and kittens

ALL CATS THAT PASS THROUGH OUR CARE ARE VET-CHECKED, MICRO-CHIPPED AND VACCINATED. CATS OLDER THAN 6 MONTHS ARE NEUTERED AND WE FOLLOW UP THE NEUTERING OF KITTENS THAT ARE HOMED FROM US.

ASSISTED NEUTERING: The most important message in cat care is to prevent unwanted kittens. We assist those who have difficulty paying for neutering. There are limited funds available for this support and beneficiaries are carefully chosen.

TRAP, NEUTER AND RELEASE of feral cats. Most feral cats live comfortably in the wild, often fed by kindly humans. We trap these animals, have them neutered and release them back into the area they came from. If kittens are young enough and we have space, we sometimes able to take them in, socialise them and find good homes for them. Unfortunately, a feral mother will often hide her kittens until they are too old to be socialised and lose the fear of humans instilled by the mother.

FUND-RAISING: In order to do all this work, we need to raise funds. We do this by having stalls in local towns and through our sponsorship scheme. We are grateful to sometimes receive legacies from cat lovers. We only get funds from Cats Protection Head Office for assisted neutering and, all other expenditure comes from local fundraising. This year we have used Facebook Marketplace to raise much needed money as we are unable to do any face-to-face events.
