Formed in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. The Reading (East), Wokingham & Bracknell Branch was formed in January 1994 when the former Reading & District Branch (itself formed in May 1985) was divided into two autonomous Branches to better support the large catchment area in the heart of the Thames Valley and to respond more effectively to the ever increasing requests for help.
We now rehome and reunite 55,500 cats and kittens every year, through our network of over 250 voluntary-run branches and 29 adoption centres.
Like many other Cats Protection branches across the country, the Reading (East), Wokingham and Bracknell branch do a wide range of activities to protect and help cats.
- Our first and foremost frequent task is taking in unwanted cats or kittens, from owners who can no longer care for them.
- We take in strays and attempt to reunite them with their original owners, if they cannot be traced they are re-homed.
- We operate a lost and found register.
- We take in feral cats to be neutered, and they are then rehomed in stables or garden nursery type environments, young feral cats are socialised with the aim that they can eventually be homed properly.
- Any cats we take in, which require medical treatment, are treated by our vet at our expense, this is so that all cats in our care are fit and healthy when they are re-homed.
- We provide assistance with the cost of neutering. To obtain a voucher towards the cost of this please phone us on 0845 371 4212 - lines are open Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm only
We encourage the neutering of all cats not required for breeding, and provide an information service to the public. Our branch covers the Reading East, Wokingham and Bracknell area. This area includes towns such as Crowthorne, Woodley and Winnersh. We help rehome unwanted cats and kittens, provide financial aid to low income families for veterinary care such as neutering and provide information and advice on general cat care.
We invite you to read more about the cats we have in our care who are looking for a home, how we try to help and details on our fundraising events which we hope you will find enjoyable and informative.
Please see our Adopt a cat page for photos and descriptions of cats and kittens in our care looking for a new home.
We have regular monthly meetings - please see the Events Page - Branch Meetings for the date of the next meeting.
