St Neots & District Cats Protection are a group of volunteers who take in unwanted and stray cats in the St Neots area and re-home them where possible. Unlike other animal charities, we don't have a shelter. All our cats are housed in specially designed cat pets in volunteers gardens in and around St Neots.

We work with several feral colonies in the area and are currently feeding around 150 feral cats. We operate a trap, neuter and return policy with feral cats.

We also run a local Lost & Found register and feature details of missing and found cats on our website. We work closely with local vets and animal charities to help reunite cats with their owners.

The Cats Protection has a strict policy that we never put a healthy cat to sleep.



  As a charity the Cats Protection has three main aims. These are to:

Rescue stray and unwanted cats and kittens, and rehabilitate and rehome them where possible

Unfortunately most cats that come into our care have a history. Some are abandoned when their owners move, some wander off and some come to us because their owners no longer can look after them or want them anymore. If we have space we will take in any cat that is in need and rehome them in the most suitable environment.

• Encourage the neutering of all cats and kittens not required for breeding

Every year we get lots of calls about unwanted cats and kittens and unfortunately we can't help them all. Therefore we encourage the neutering of all cats not required for breeding to reduce the number of unwanted cats. We also work with feral colonies, many of which stem from un-neutered pets that either go astray or who are abandoned and go on to produce several generations of cats and kittens. Feral cats are very hard to rehabilitate so we operate a trap, neuter and return policy and set up feeding schemes so they get one square meal a day.

• 
Inform the public about the care of cats and kittens

An important part of our work is to help the public by informing them on cat care and answering any questions they may have. We often get calls to the branch requesting help or advice. Cat care advice leaflets can be ordered or downloaded from the main Cats Protection website.
