Oh cat, beautiful cat - by Christine Bentley
Oh cat, beautiful cat,
Your such a wondrous sight.
To see you fills my heart
With much delight.
You walk with pride and dignity .
Yet you stalk with silent stealth.
Ancient indeed you are.
But of this you have no care,
Through the ages to the
Gods you have spoke.
Yet some folk treat you as a pet.
Or a silly joke,
Try to hold you down, train you
To fetch or carry.
But I am glad
You will have none of that,
For even by the fires you may
Have sat,
Still full of mystery you are.
Out tonight you will go
Under the bright moonlight
And stars you will stroll,
To the gods, you will talk.
But that no surprise to me.
For it is clear to see.
A god you are yourself,
And always will be.
Oh cat you wondrous one.
The Stray Cat - by Christine Bentley
The cat was hungry and thin when she came
to my door on a freezing winter night.
she looked a sorry sight.
with eyes so appealing
yet full of despair.
She looked at me as if to say
I hope you have room for one more cat.
I will not ask you for much,
a drop of water for me will do.
WHATS THAT, she says
I can have some milk.
well thank you very much.
a tiny scrap of food I would love
if you have it to spare.
her luck she could not believe when
I gave her some fish.
a dry spot in your shed
may I please have.
much better than having no
place at all
how thrilled she was when my cats
invited her to share their bed.
but suddenly she went though the door
leaving me to wonder why,
but a little time later I knew why
when through the door she brought
a tiny kitten,
than two more
she looked at me with eyes unsure.
as if to say
please keep me and my family.
for others have thrown me out
when they became fed up of me.
SO PLEASE, oh please don't you do the same.
but as she settled her little family down
I saw in her eyes she knew from now on
she would always have a loving home.
