Black cats are often overlooked by would-be adopters and many of them remain in our care for longer than others. This is why Cats Protection held a Black Cat Awareness Day on 27 October 2011.
To really get people’s attention, Cats Protection ran a social media campaign and asked people to make friends with Billy Noir-Mates on facebook as well as uploading their black cat photos to their facebook page.
Our branch also held a black cat photo competition on our own facebook page. Dancing Cat Design kindly donated a calendar as a prize for the winner. The winning photo is shown on this page.
Thousands of people backed Cat Protection's national campaign, which has led the charity to introduce it as an annual event. Next year's Black Cat Awareness Day will take place on Saturday 27 October 2012.
