Our History

In July 1980 Captain Boothby of the Cats Protection League, chaired a meeting at Newton Methodist Chapel schoolroom, which was attended by about 25 people. From this meeting the Newton and District Group was formed.

This was co-coordinated by Doreen and Eric Lambert until they resigned through ill health. Sue and Derek Williams took over as co-coordinators for the group which then became the Chesterfield and District Group in 1986. However, it became evident that the area to be covered was far too large and that a new group needed to be formed covering the Nottinghamshire area. The Ashfield and Amber Valley Group came into being in 1987 and was co-coordinated by Sue Mohammed until 1998. The Branch is still going strong with Diane Band now at the helm. Our shelter is at Scarcliffe and we have a small band of dedicated helpers.
