Volunteering

Cats Protection welcome volunteers with open arms.  Whatever your skills, or however much time you have to offer, we'll find the right role for you to help us to care for thousands of cats and kittens every year.

At Axhayes we have people who volunteer as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, and students studying animal care courses.  We also take people who are interested in working with animals on work experience.  For insurance reasons, you have to be over 16 years of age to volunteer at Axhayes.  Some people like to come in during our opening hours to socialise and groom the cats, some come in earlier and help the staff to clean the pens.  We have also recently set up a Friends Of group who help raise the profile of the Centre, and do fundraising events and projects. 

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us on 01395 232377, or fill out the form below.  We then ask you to come out and see us so you can have a tour and get to know about how the Centre runs.

If filling out the on-line form, in the yellow 'is there anything you would like to tell us' space, please state which of the following three options applies to you, so that we know what you are interested in doing at Axhayes:

1.  Socialising.....you come in any time between 11am and 3pm and either 'cat-cuddle', groom, or ask to be allocted a specific cat who is shy or is a bit depressed who you can spend time with every time you come in.

2.  Cleaning..... you come in at 9am (we open to the public at 11am and need the pens clean by then, hense the early start!) and help clean the cat pens.  This can be hard work, and you will need to wear hard-wearing shoes and jeans.  You can always stay and spend time with the cats after!

3.  Fund-raising via the Friends of Group..... Our Friends of Group are a great bunch of people who organise and run fund-raising events and raise vital funds for the Centre.  They meet here at Axhayes on the third Monday of every month at 6pm.
