Meet the celebrities – and, of course, their black cats – who are showing their support for Cats Protection on Black Cat Awareness Day

David Schneider and his cat George
Comedian and actor
David adopted seven-year-old George from Cats Protection around six years ago.
He says: “George’s foolishness always brings us entertainment. He still doesn’t quite understand doors – they have to be totally open for him to realise; he only understands opening, he doesn’t understand doors! Half open? No, he’s still not going to go through!”
Jilly Cooper OBE and her cat Feral

Author and journalist
Jilly is a lifelong cat lover. She is joined here by her feline friend, Feral.
She says: “I’m a colossal fan of my black cat Feral, so-called because he used to roam near my house, every day coming nearer and nearer until my black-and-white fluffy cat led him into our house one day and he officially became a family member. Feral is a lovely cat; he’s affectionate and funny and likes to sleep in a milk crate in my shed or on my bed at night. I would recommend black cats warmly – they have a sense of humour and a sense of independence and yet have so much love to give.”
Twiggy Lawson and her cat Titania
Fashion icon
Twiggy shares her home with 15-year-old black cat, Titania.
She says: “It’s sad that there are hundreds of unwanted black cats who sit on the shelf day after day and are overlooked by potential owners. My own black cat, Titiana, is a brilliant friend and she brightens up my life. She’s part of the family. I call her my lucky black cat and I adore her. I hope Cats Protection’s Black Cat Awareness Day prompts more people to bring a black cat into their life.”
