At Last !
Laura Middlemast & Julie Styler, two of our intrepid Cat Care Assistants finally took the plunge - literally. Their sponsored Tandem Parachute Jump was originally booked for Sunday 6th November, but due to bad weather, was unfortunately postponed until the following Saturday. But fate didn't let them jump then either, as bad weather closed in yet again, ruining their attempt.
Third time was the charm. On the afternoon of Tuesday 15th November, Laura & Julie were chucked out of a perfectly functioning aeroplane at a stomach-churning height of just over 2 miles (12,000 feet) and hurtled towards the earth at a breath-stealing 120mph !
After what seemed a lifetime in free-fall, and probably seeing their own lives flash before their eyes, their parachutes opened with a bruising jerk, slowing their screaming 120mph descent to a more comfortable 40mph cruise. Both Laura & Julie coasted for several minutes, admiring the panoramic view of the earth that had scarily approached very rapidly just seconds before, and bumped to a safe landing.
Hyperventilating and buzzing with adrenaline, Laura & Julie were so exhilarated by their mind-blowing sky trip, that they wanted to do it all over again there and then.
Congratulations to both of them on a safe landing, raising a bucket load of money for Cats Protection, and having Balls Of Steel for doing it in the first place. You can still donate to Cats Protection through their justgiving.com pages at http://www.justgiving.com/julie-styler and http://www.justgiving.com/Laura-Middlemast
A big thank you to the instructors of Hinton Skydive Centre for their assistance in helping Laura & Julie complete their epic adventure, and returning them safely to earth.
