Lost and Found

IS YOUR CAT MISSING?

At Cats Protection we understand how traumatic it can be when a much-loved pet suddenly goes missing.  Follow the advice in this information  section to aid your chances of finding him / her safe and well.

Cats are well known for their curiosity and ability to find unlikely sleeping places, so check the following places:

  • All rooms
  • Cupboards
  • Boxes
  • Household appliances like washing machines
  • Sheds and garages
  • Vehicles
  • Gardens
  • Hedgerows
  • Lost and found sections in local newspapers.

ADVERTISE

There are several ways of letting people know that your feline friend is missing:

  • Put posters on trees
  • Distribute leaflets to local Shops, Garages and Post Offices.
  • Contact local Schools, newspapers and even radio
  • Use local notice boards including a recent photo of your cat.

INFORM

You can also let individuals and organisations know- don't underestimate the power of word-of-mouth communication, Contact:

  • Neighbours
  • Local Veterinary Surgeons
  • Local Schools - Children in particularly are very observant when it comes to animals.
  • Local Cats Protection branch - 01282 693400  website  burnleycatsprotection@yahoo.com
  • Missing Pets Bureau - 08701600999
  • Pet Search UK - 01217434133
  • Animal Search UK - 07884316943
  • The Cleansing Dept of your local Council
  • Delivery people - post, newspaper, milk etc.

OFFER A REWARD

If you decide to do this, as it could be claimed on your insurance policy depending on your insurance provider a Reward offer may be covered in your policy.

AND FINALLY

Please remember that the earlier you report your cat as missing, the more likely it is that he will be found, Also observe the following considerations:

  • When your cat is found, inform any people or authorities who have been asked to look for him.
  • Cats Protection recommends that all cats are microchipped.  This is harmless and makes it easier to trace the owners of found cats.
  • Cats Proctection also recommends that all cats are neutered.  Un-neutered toms are more likely to roam and un-neutered queens are known for finding quiet places to give birth- therefore increasing the chance that they could become lost.

.HAVE YOU  FOUND A CAT / KITTEN:

Have you found a cat, and would like to reunite them back with their owner. Then please send a photo, and information on where they were found. It would also be helpful if you could take them to your local vets and get them checked for a microchip; this does not cost you anything, and could make the cat and their owner(s) very happy.

We would like to let the general public know that we are LEGALLY!!  not allowed to pick up a cat if it is just a stray unless the cat is Sick or Injured is the only time we are allowed to pick them up.

We would also be grateful if you could let us know when you have been reunited with your pet as we can update our info and maybe even write it up as a success story!   Please contact burnleycatsprotection@yahoo.com /helpline on: 01282 693400

Thanks for all your help.

PAPER COLLARS

We have now set up a new scheme, where if the public find a stray cat in their garden, and if the cat is not injured or sick (then we are NOT LEGALLY allowed to pick the cat up) so we are giving out our paper collars.

These collars are for the public to put around the cat (if they can approach the cat) to leave on them for two weeks and if the cat returns home hopefully the owner will give us a ring to let us know that the cat is not a stray.

We can put our number on for the owners to ring or the member of the public who requires one of these collars can put their number on if they wish.

We must tell you that these collars are very safe for the cats as they are only paper, but if it helps to re-home a cat, or for the owner to tag the cat so it will not be thought of as a stray again every little helps.

To get one of these collars please ring the helpline on 01282 693400 and leave a message on line 1.

Also once again thank you for helping!
