Neutering Campaign 2010-2011

Update July 2011: The FREE neutering period has now finished.

Update May 2011: Since we started the neutering campaign in November 2010 we have issued almost 700 vouchers totalling over £32,500. Imagine how many kittens this has prevented!

Neutering is one of Cats Protection's core objectives. It is a sad fact that far more animals are born than there are homes available. By neutering we can ensure that the unplanned litters of today don't become the unwanted cats of tomorrow.
The kitten season runs from April to December during which time a healthy cat can produce two to three litters with as many as five or six in a litter - it is so easy to see how the cat population can spiral out of control.
The Cambridge branch has always regarded neutering as a vital part of our work and provides help with neutering for those on low incomes and means tested benefits who would be unable to have their cats neutered without financial help.
Despite spending nearly £20,000 on neutering per year in 2009 and 2010, we have been inundated with litter after litter of kittens. This has been a particular problem in certain areas of Cambridge where the message does not appear to have got through. We have therefore decided to spend the legacy so generously left to us by launching a NEUTERING CAMPAIGN whereby neutering will be free to everyone. The campaign launched on 1st November 2010 and runs for a limited time.
List of participating vets. The vets have offered to help with this initiative by undertaking the neutering for a fixed price. We would like to thank them all very much as we wouldn't be able to do this without them: Arbury Road Veterinary Surgery, Cambridge Veterinary Group, Clarendon Street Veterinary Surgery, Companion Care (Cambridge), David Urwin (Linton), Hollyoaks Veterinary Surgery (Impington), Lida Vets (Newmarket), Mercer and Hughes (Saffron Walden), Pet Doctors (Burwell & Soham), the Village Vet group (Longstanton, Cottenham, Milton, Whittlesford, Pampisford), Woolpack (Buntingford).
