Paul & Paula Benjafield, Fosterers for Chatteris, St Ives and District Branch of Cats Protection

Cromwell Farm and fostering for Cats Protection have gone hand in hand for quite some time now. The cattery and kennels are located in the peaceful and tranquil countryside of Bury in Cambridgeshire.

The new owners, Paul and Paula Benjafield, have been in residence for the past eight months. Their love of animals meant that as soon as they were approached with a view to carrying on where the Westons left off, and fostering for the branch, they very kindly agreed to continue this valuable work.

The Cromwell Farm cattery has 19 clean and spacious pens available for boarding cats – two large pens hold up to four cats together, and the rest will hold a maximum of two cats each. Close attention is paid to every cat that is boarded at Cromwell Farm, and their happiness and welfare are given the highest priority at all times.

In addition to the Cromwell Farm cattery, there are four pens devoted to housing rescue cats for Cats Protection. These pens can hold up to three adult cats each.

These rescue cats then get not only the veterinary care they need (such as neutering, micro-chipping, vaccinations, etc), but also receive the individual attention that any animal requires.  Quite often, the cats may have had a bad time,  are ill or have behavioural problems and require extra care until they are ready for rehoming.

One such case is Peggy (pictured).

She was brought in close to collapse from starvation,
and the vet gave her only a week to live.
Paul, Paula and their team stepped up to the challenge
of saving her, and gave her not only the nutrition
she needed, but also the time and affection she craved.  She repaid their efforts by transforming from a thin
and terrified animal into a very affectionate and friendly cat.

Paula says this is the most rewarding part of a fosterer’s work.

We are very pleased to welcome Paul and Paula to our team of volunteer fosterers.
