Albert is a middle aged long haired cat, found lying in the pouring rain on a Derby pavement by a very kind member of the public, who took him straight to Abbey Vets, who immediately contacted the Branch.
Because of his condition, Albert had to be fully shaved as his fur was very badly knotted and, following tests, he was found to have a condition called hyperthyroidism which happily can be controlled with tablets: once he is stabilised on the tablets, there is the possibility of an operation to correct this problem.
The vet nurses have been tremendously helpful during this time, and one of the receptionists has agreed to adopt him. He has no fur at all apart from on his head and feet – a sorry sight to see and not a very good situation to be in during the very cold weather. But as you will see he looks very smart in his bright red designer coat, bought for him by the same kind person who rescued him.
Albert (the shaved cat, with a beautiful red jumper) passed away last Friday 4th |April after suffering a blood clot in his leg. After initially doing well on emergency treatment, he passed away in his sleep Friday morning. He was a lot older than first thought and bravely fought off cat flu and cystitis during his stay with us. We enjoyed a lovely 2 months with him, and he will be sadly missed by us and all the staff at Abbey Vets (his character made him a very popular visitor!!).
