I've seen lots of very young cats pregnant or with kittens but the latest to come into Helen and John's pen has to be the youngest yet. She looks about 5 months old with the fine bones of a kitten turning into an adolescent cat.
Karyn had taken a call from a lady who had noticed a cat left behind after her neighbours had moved. She said she thought it might be pregnant. When she came in she wasn't just pregnant but looked ready to give birth! How can someone move house and leave their cat behind?
It just goes to show that the earlier cats are neutered the better. To find a vet who will neuter early look at the main Cats Protection website - http://www.cats.org.uk/what-we-do/neutering/menu-early-neutering/. We recommend neutering from four and a half months old.
Anyway within hours of settling into Helen and John's pen she gave birth to 4 lovely kittens. All are black and white (Toon Army kittens - coming with their own home strip!) and are healthy. Despite her young age she is a good Mum, only leaving them to feed and use her litter tray, and rushing back if she hears any of them crying.
She's a lovely cat and is very affectionate, headbutting visitors and craving attention. She's black with lovely
amber eyes. I hope once her kittens are homed she gets the home she deserves with someone who would never dream of leaving her behind.
Update - 1st November
The 4 kittens are doing well and Pixie, as she is now known (she has a sweet pixie face) is a good mum. 2 have homes to go to. 3 have fine features like mum but the 4th, named Wayne as he is chunkier and his black and white markings look like Wayne Rooney's hair transplant! However, I think he should be called after one of Newcastle United's team as both he and they are doing well and he is black and white. Pictures soon.
