Microchip helps reunite elderly Cambridgeshire cat with relieved owner
30 May 2017
The Ely branch recently assisted one of our supporters in reuniting a 15 year old cat with his very relieved owner.
The missing moggy had been seen in a garden in Burwell for several weeks and was obviously very hungry. Once trapped, he was whisked off to the vets where he was scanned for a microchip. A chip was found and his very relieved owner was contacted by the microchip company.
This poor cat had ended up quite far from home; he lives in Cambridge with his brother who had been pining for him the whole time he was missing. Thanks to the microchip, they were happily reunited after more than a month away.
Cats homed through Cats Protection are microchipped before they go to their new home but it is vital that contact information is kept up to date. All too often cats are brought into vets and animal shelters which are found to be chipped but the contact details for owner have not been updated, making it very difficult or impossible to reunite the pet with its owner.
Please remember, if you are moving house or have changed your phone number, to update your pet’s microchip contact details.
