Adopt a cat

We are very keen to find loving and furever homes for the cats in our care. During the process of adopting a cat from the Cats Protection South East Kent Branch, we will take everything into consideration from the cats personality to your home environment – creating the perfect match for both cat and owner and to create a wonderful bond. Adopting a cat or kitten involves long-term commitment, as most cats will live for at least 15 years. Therefore we would ask you to think carefully before adopting a cat or kitten.

If you are interested in any of the cats available for adoption from the South East Kent Branch, please enquire via their listing below or call us on 0345 260 1253.

Our cats are looked after in fosterers' own homes, and we may require a video call or a home visit from one of our cat matching volunteers. This is an informal phone call or house visit, where all aspects of cat care are to be discussed, and information gathered to help us assess whether the cat that you have chosen would be a good match for your family. We do reserve the right to make any decision based on the cat's needs.

We usually have a selection of cats and kittens in our care looking for new homes. Before leaving our care, all cats over six months old are flea and worm treated, blood tested for FIV and FeLV, fully vaccinated and are neutered and microchipped. Cats under six months are too young for blood tests, but as with all our cats, have up to date vaccinations, wormed, flea treated and vet checked, so you know they have a clean bill of health, with no hidden surprises! However any kittens homes under 16 weeks will be provided with a neutering voucher.

On occasion we do see a lot of interest in particular cats, particularly young or pedigree type cats. For this reason we may place a reserve on the cat until we work through all the enquiries, or we may use a shortlisting process to determine the most suitable home for a cat where there are high levels of interest. We try to respond to all adoption enquiries within 48 hours, however if you do not hear from us then please do not hesitate to follow up .

As you will understand there is a great deal of expense involved in keeping up the work that we do with needy cats and we are totally dependent on our own fundraising (undertaken by volunteers) and donations made by you, the public. Therefore Cats' Protection asks adopters for a fee of £75 for a cat and £95 for a kitten under 6 months old. If you feel you would like to make a donation on top of the fee that would be gratefully received.
