Testimonial - Claire Hannington - Completed the National Three Peaks: 16 July 2011
Q - What made you chose to do this particular event for Cats Protection?
A - A friend of mine suggested doing the National Three Peaks Challenge and I was well up for it. Previously in 2010 I had rescued two unwanted brother kittens and their mother. The Swansea Branch of Cats Protection hand-fed them and brought them back to health. Their mum went on to find a loving home and I fostered the boy, subsequently adopting them and they are now a big part of my family life. As cheeky but adoring boys as one could have! So with the Three Peaks Challenge on, I decided I wanted to raise money for Cats Protection.
Q - How did you find the event - what did you like/dislike/find hard/find easy?
A - Let’s just say we had the wettest weekend on record for the year! It was wet. It was cold. We travelled from peak to peak in my car under a duvet trying to keep warm but also trying to dry off with the waterproofs hanging from any available space…which proved to be not waterproof by that weekend’s standards. But it was worth it. The final peak was the worst as I was so tired but we did it. The final descent was agony but the sense of achievement was immense. And the camaraderie with other like-minded people will never leave me. We all kept each other going.
Q - Is there any advice you could give to people thinking about taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge?
A - It is hard…do not underestimate it. I did a lot of training climbing the Brecon Beacons beforehand and it put me in good stead. But it is well worth it and if anyone is up for the challenge I would highly recommend it as the sense of achievement is well worth it. Go for it. But be prepared!
