National Cat Awards - Meet the category judges

National Cat Awards 2017

Our judges for the following five categories have been announced - Hero Cat, Most Caring Cat, Purina Better Together, Furr-ever Friends and Cats Protection Special Recognition Award.

Hero Cat
Judge: Stephen Dixon

Stephen is one of the main presenters on Sky News andStephen Dixon National Cat Awards presents the channel’s Sunrise programme. He previously presented Channel 5 news and was Programme Editor for Channel 4’s Big Breakfast News. Stephen is a cat lover who attended last year’s awards, and he is also patron of the Animal Behaviour and Training Council.

Ali Bastian National Cat AwardsMost Caring Cat
Judge: Ali Bastian

Actress Ali Bastian played Becca in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks for six years as well as PC Sally Armstrong in ITV1’s The Bill. She also reached the semi-final of the BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2009 where she received perfect scores in the American Smooth and Viennese Waltz, while her other appearances include the BBC’s Death in Paradise and Jonathan Creek. Ali has two cats called Brutus and Nala.
Purina Better Together category (judged by the public)Tim Vincent National Cat Awards
Presenter: Tim Vincent

A big lover of cats, Tim is a presenter on Access Hollywood where he interviews ‘A’ list Hollywood names for the show six nights a week. He was the first Brit to host Who Wants to be a Millionaire on ABC and he also appears on number of UK shows including ITV’s This Morning and BBC1’s National Lottery EuroMillions Draw. In addition, Tim has hosted the internationally televised Miss World four times.
Jessica Jane Stafford National Cat AwardsFurr-ever Friends
Judge: Jessica-Jane Stafford

Jessica has presented BBC3’s The Real Hustle and E4’s The Body Shocking Show and she was also a contestant in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. Her film appearances include the short movie Two Persons Max, for which she won best supporting actress at the Los Angeles Music Awards. Jessica-Jane used to own two cats called Suzy and Sally.

John ChallisCats Protection Special Recognition Award
Judge: John Challis

John is best known for playing ‘Boycie’ in the BBC1 sitcoms Only Fools and Horses and The Green, Green Grass. He has been an actor for 55 years and his other TV appearances include Z-Cars, The Sweeney, Last of The Summer Wine and Heartbeat. He is also a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre and recently played Malvolio in Twelfth Night. John has a cat called Mortimer. 

Oustanding Rescue Cat
Judge: Peter Egan
Peter Egan
Peter is an actor whose TV appearances include playing Hugh 'Shrimpie' MacClare in ITV's Downton Abbey and Martin Hughes in ITV crime drama Unforgotten. He has appeared in a number of London plays including People, Art and Young Chekhov. A keen animal rights advocate, Peter has raised awareness of unwanted cats in the UK and endangered big cats overseas.
