Along with many animal charities, Gosport Cats Protection has found it really tough this year trying to find enough foster homes for all the pregnant cats, both owned and strays, who needed to come into care and then find good homes for all the kittens and Mum’s too. We wanted to take positive action and a generous legacy enabled us to run a £5 neutering campaign. The £5 campaign ran during October 2011 and we are pleased to announce that a total of 120 cats and kittens were neutered under the campaign (73 females and 47 males) with ages ranging from 4 months to 5 years. It is frustrating too that some owners who registered for the £5 neutering campaign then failed to proceed with the surgery for their pet.
The timing of our neutering campaign proved rather poignant as on 30/09/11 Gosport branch took in two 8 week old kittens who had been found abandoned in a park. Theo & Leo as they were named had been put in a box and simply left but fortunately were found by a member of the public. They were alive with fleas but fosterer Clare soon dealt with the bugs and after much tlc have been happily rehomed. We couldn’t have run our campaign without the thoughtful legacy left to Gosport Cats Protection and can only hope that it will make a difference to the cats in the area and of course when we get to kitten season next year.
Gosport Cats Protection encourages all owners to have their kitten or cat neutered and we run a scheme, all year round, where we can help with the cost (amounting to about a third) of the neutering procedure. Please get your kitten or cat neutered and ring us on 02392 58260 for details of the financial help available.
