What We Do
Whilst we pride ourselves on the care given to all our resident Cats and Kittens, the Haslemere Adoption Centre cannot provide the levels of love, comfort and security found in a real home. If you wish to adopt a Cat or Kitten - singular or plural - we have an extensive choice, as below, all needing a loving home:
We aim to match our Cats with the right homes, such as families with children, older people who need a companion, or rural homes that need mousers.
What to expect
When you visit The Centre, please come with an open mind and an understanding that many of the cats arriving to The Centre can find the transition extremely stressful. Their familiar routines and surroundings have been snatched away and they cannot understand why this has happened. Consequently, some Cats will not present themselves too well on a first meeting. Please understand their situation and do not be put-off if they are not immediately loving and affectionate. Apparently 'withdrawn' or 'unfriendly' Cats invariably completely change their personality once happily settled into a new loving home.
If you have already made a decision to adopt, only the choice remains, you will be asked to complete our homefinder questionnaire which will help us to ensure we match you up with the right cat. Then, when you visit, if you meet the ideal Cat or Kittenthat matches your suitability you can reserved them that day (we will reserve your cat for a maximum of seven days). Moreover, if you have all preparations in place and your new family member(s) are ready to be homed; your choice(s) can go home with you that day.
Re-homing your cat
The Haslemere Adoption Centre accepts Cats for Re-Homing from Local CP Branches, other Feline Rescue Organisations and the General Public. Newly arriving Cats are assessed and any necessary Veterinary Treatments are carried out. Staff work very hard to reduce any high stress levels and seek to match individual Cats with a New and Loving Home.
Neutering
A single female cat can reproduce more than 100 kittens during her life. CP champions neutering as the only effective way to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the UK, this includes neutering of kittens before they reach puberty at 4 - 6 months.
Haslemere Adoption Centre, in consultation with our Veterinary Practice, neuters kittens around the age of 9 - 10 weeks. Neutering at this age is safe and ethical. Haslemere Adoption Centre Policy is that all Cats and Kittens will be neutered before being re-homed.
