How to get a cat

If you have thought carefully about adopting a cat and now feel
ready to give one of our cats a caring home, it's time to take
the next step.

Here's how to do it...

Step 1 - Get the Details

Identify your local CP adoption centre or branch and give them a ring, booking an appointment if necessary.
Alternatively phone our Helpline on 08702 099 099 (Monday to Friday; 9am-5pm) to find a branch or adoption centre near you.

Step 2 - On arrival

Tell us what type of cat you are looking for and a little bit about yourself via a questionnaire and a chat. If visiting one of our adoption centres you can meet some of the cats looking for a new home.

Step 3 - Home visit

Not every cat will suit your specific environment. We carry out a home visit to ensure that we find a cat that fits your circumstances. Home visits are also a chance for you to ask questions and discuss the ins and outs of homing a Cats Protection cat.

Step 4 - View the cats

Visit the cats and take the opportunity to speak with the branch volunteer or Cat Care Assistant about Cats Protection’s homing procedure and the cats’ personalities.

Step 5 - Collection day

Once you've had your home visit, you can collect kitty. Given that our cat care costs can be in excess of £150 per cat, we do welcome donations! Many people give in excess of £50 per cat to further the work of the charity and help even more cats.

Step 6 - Advice and support

If you have any queries, after taking your cat home, please give the branch or adoption centre a call. Our National Helpline (08702 099 099) is also here to help you Mon - Fri: 9am - 5pm.
 Advice and support

Thank you for giving a cat a second chance of happiness.
