Adopt a cat
Thank you for visiting this page that shows some of the many cats and kittens available for homing.
Please note that, although we make every effort to ensure that the website is up-to-date, some of the cats and kittens shown may already have been adopted, whilst others in our care may not yet have been placed on the site.
We’re keen to help as many cats and kittens as possible. Offering a home to one of our cats will help to free more space to take in urgent cases.
The following process ensures that adopting our cats and kittens is as efficient as possible for the cats, their adopters and us:

Check that you are within a reasonable distance of our Branch. You can find your nearest Branch by typing in your postcode at
www.cats.org.uk/find-us.

Enquire. If you have a general query about adoption or if you’ve seen a cat or kitten on our website that you’re interested in homing, send an enquiry through by email to
adoption@leavalley.cats.org.uk or call us on
0333 567 4746. Alternatively, if you complete the form available below each cat's details on our site, it will be forwarded to us by email. We will try to respond as soon as we can.

Identify the right cat. Before any cat or kitten is homed, one of our volunteers will discuss with you those cats or kittens available to ensure that the right cat or kitten goes to the right home. Many cats will suit a variety of new homes. However, where appropriate, we identify cats that require special consideration, such as those that would not be comfortable with children or other animals. We sometimes have a pair of cats that need to be homed together and, when this is the case, it will be highlighted on their profiles. A home visit by one of our volunteers may also be arranged. Please note that, if you live in a rented property, you may be asked for proof of your address and the consent of your landlord.

Adopt. Once we have discussed and agreed with you which cat or kitten is the right one for you, then we wil reserve it and start the process of adoption. You’ll be sent paperwork to sign and return. To recover some of our costs of caring for our cats in care, we shall ask for payment of an adoption fee of £100.00 for a cat or £120.00 for a kitten (up to 6 months old), usually by bank transfer (see below). Once the adoption fee has been paid we will reserve your cat.
Please note our reservations are time limited so please be ready to adopt before enquiring. Currently we will only be able to reserve a cat for a 7 day period before collecting.

Take your cat home. Once this is finalised, we’ll arrange a mutually convenient time for you to collect your cat or kitten, which will be covered by four weeks' free PetPlan insurance that you may choose to continue.

Support. We shall call or email you some days after the adoption to check that your new arrival is settled-in. You can also find help and advice on Cats Protection's website at

Adoption fees
All cats and kittens that come into our care undergo a full veterinary check-up and any conditions identified are treated. All cats and kittens are vaccinated, treated for fleas, wormed and microchipped.
All adult cats are neutered. Normally kittens will be neutered before adoption but, if this is not possible, then we make a contribution towards the cost of neutering, following adoption.
These treatments cost the charity, on average, over £275 and we ask that adopters pay a fee of £100 for a cat or £120 for a kitten to recover some of this cost.
Age discrimination is illegal but, unfortunately, that doesn't extend to cats! Please don’t discriminate; give a home to an older cat.

We sometimes have feral 'undomesticated' cats that need to live outside in the wild, maybe in a garden shed or stable. All they need is shelter and food/water. For this they will reward you as champion mousers, ridding your garden or outhouse of mice and rats. They are also good for people who like cats but don't necessarily want to have a cat indoors.
