National Pet Month event promotes cats as a ‘purr-fect’ pet
Cats Protection’s Luton, Dunstable & District branch is holding a competition throughout the area launching on 2nd April to coincide with National Pet Month.
The branch, part of the UK’s leading cat welfare charity, is running the competition to coincide with the special month-long celebration which raises awareness of the benefits that pets bring to people, as well as promoting responsible pet ownership.
The branch has recently had their new van “wrapped” and is offering local families a prize if they keep an eye out for it. The colourful eye-catching wrap ensures it stands out from the crowd when out and about in the area. The charity is offering a prize to the person or family who sends or emails the charity with the 100th photo along with a suggested name for the cat whose picture is featured on the side of the van whilst it’s out and about promoting the work done by the Dunstable based organisation.
Volunteer spokeswoman, Helen Balcombe said: “The van is one of the first in the country to have Cats Protection’s new advertising on it. It’s very distinctive and as it’s used around Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and surrounding villages it is hoped it will act as an advert for the branch and encourage people to come forward and home a cat from us. With the increase in cats needing to come into our care we are hoping that 2011 will see more people coming forward to offer a cat a forever home. National Pet Month is a good time for people to stop and think about how a pet could enhance their lives. Those choosing a cat will be thoroughly rewarded as cats offer love and companionship as well as a degree of independence, self-reliance and charm!”
Cats Protection survey findings prove the benefits of owning a cat. A feline friend can be the ultimate stress-buster with most owners questioned saying they would prefer to snuggle up to their cat than have a massage (66 per cent), phone a friend (64 per cent) or have a drink (52 per cent).
Cats are also a real ‘attraction’ with 82 per cent of women saying they are more attracted to men who like animals. Older people benefit from having a cat too, with 80 per cent of owners aged over 55 believing themselves to be happier than non-cat owners.
