All the usual fundraising activities involve a lot of hard
work from our supporters, but here’s one that doesn’t. We have found a company
that will give us 50p for every old DVD and CD we send them, so even if they
don’t sell at one of our events, we can still make money by recycling.
The company doing this recycling for charities is called
Music Magpie. They provide a free collection service, and cheques are sent out
very promptly once the CD/DVDs have been checked for suitability. We have already
had a cheque for £45 for a consignment of just over 100 (some failed their
inspection) and it really is an excellent way of getting rid of unsalable
items.
Of course, nothing is
ever that easy and there are rules. Firstly, CDs/DVDs must be sent in quantities
of 100+ and the CDs must be in their original undamaged cases. All must be bar
coded and ‘freebies ‘ from magazines and
newspapers are not acceptable. Also the CD must contain at least 5 tracks, i.e.
‘singles’ are not OK. That’s it – anything else is allowed.
Veronica is collecting the DVDs/CDs and sending them off, so
if you have any left at the end of an event, don’t pack them up, give them to
her for the next Music Magpie consignment. Please help spread the word and
encourage your friends to donate their old CDs and DVDs. If we can’t sell them,
we can still get 50p each for them from Music Magpie, it’s that easy!
