What we do
The Maidenhead and District branch of Cats Protection deals with quite a large area, covering postcodes SL1 - SL6. We are staffed 100% by unpaid volunteers who undertake Cats Protection work in their spare time, fitting it in around work and family commitments.
Our main activites are:
Rehoming - We take in stray and feral cats in our area and, funds and space permitting, and provide them with whatever veterinary care they need. All cats are blood tested and vaccinated, neutered and prepared for rehoming to suitable new owners. Feral cats are returned from whence they came, or rehomed at suitable farms etc. Our practice is to never 'put down' a healthy cat. This policy means that we have enormous vets bills to cover (despite getting a huge amount of help from our local Vet practices). We aim to rehome cats and kittens as soon as possible once they are ready to leave our care. However, it is important to match the cat to the owner, and to this end we will carry out a home visit to check suitability. Kittens are usually rehomed in pairs.
Neutering - Cats coming into our care are always neutered where applicable. We can also provide financial help to people on benefits who want to get their cats 'neutered' but find the fees prohibitive.
Education – We endeavor to inform and educate the public about cats and their welfare wherever possible.
Fostering - Cats are looked after temporarily by our team of foster parents, either in a pen in their garden, or in a specially prepared room in their home.
Fund Raising to support all the above services, including both running and taking part in events (jumble, book, bricabrac, fetes, boots), holding raffles, 100 Club, sponsorship schemes and anything else we can think of.
