Hi Cats Protection,
Well, it's been a little over a week so I thought you might like an update on Nelson!
I was aiming to get in touch sooner with the hope of being able to provide a more decent photo except that cat just doesn't sit still!
He's clearly settled in very well. He did spend all of last Friday daytime hiding and we saw nothing of him at all, however come Friday teatime when I was in the kitchen preparing food, he soon reared his head. From that point on he seems to only have 3 settings: sleeping, eating and lunacy!!
Whilst he's asleep we can never find him as he's usually tucked away in the most bizarre, smallest place he can find - behind the tv, under the bookcase, we have even found him in the wardrobe. However, if he suspects food of any kind, you can guarantee he will appear beside you - even the rustle of packaging entices him out immediately. At all other times you can usually hear him charging though the house or playing with his toys, which he seems to love.
He does like a good fuss but only on his terms and more often than not when you do try and give him a stroke he takes it as an indication that you want to play with him and proceeds to pounce at your hands/feet or run off and crouches in wait.
So, as you can see, he has certainly come out of his shell and is proving to be quite a character. Pandora is learning to tolerate him. The first few days she was obviously very wary and kept looking at us as if to say "what on earth have you brought into my house?!" but they are getting on better now. They will eat side by side but generally ignore each other except when Nelson is racing around the house and she will either stay out of his way or lay in wait and swat him as he rushes past. I guess, as Pandora is such a chilled out cat, it's all a bit strange to her but there have been no fights and they both don't seem entirely phazed by each other anymore so that's good.
Nelson does however have the strangest miaow. When he's exploring or playing he makes a noise that can only be described as a pigeon coo which is highly amusing!
If I can get a better photo, perhaps once his fur has fully grown back, I will send one across.
So, as you can see Nelson has become quite an entertaining addition to the family and we certainly have no regrets!
Thanks again for all Lesley's help during our trips over to the wonderful Calcutt Cattery. It was an absolute pleasure to deal with someone who obviously cares a great deal about the animals in their care and I will have no hesitation in recommending any potential boarders.
Kindest regards,
Beccie (and Alistair)
