Food donations needed for new cat adoption centre
16 October 2013
The UK's leading feline welfare charity Cats Protection is appealing to the public to donate tins of cat food in preparation for the opening of a new adoption centre in Padgate, Warrington, on 23 November.
Before being fed to the grateful felines being looked after by the centre, the tins will be used to form the Cats Protection logo on the ground so it can be seen from up high on the day of the opening.
The new, purpose-built adoption centre is an eco-friendly, 55-pen site that cost around £1.7 million to build.
Cats Protection’s North West Manager Sonia Scowcroft said: "We cannot thank people enough for the kind-hearted donations that have helped so much in building the new centre.
"As a charity, however, we are always reliant on the generosity of the public and so we are continuing with our ongoing appeal to find loving new owners for around 450 cats a year, which would increase the rate of rehoming in the area by about 65 per cent.
"Anything you feel you can do to help Cats Protection would be warmly welcomed - whether it's the donation of some tins or money or the rehoming of a cat - please accept a huge thank you on behalf of our furry friends who cannot say it themselves."
The new centre on Queen Elizabeth Drive, Padgate, will benefit from much better access than the existing one on Slutchers Lane, with excellent transport links both locally and further afield, thanks to the proximity to bus routes, a railway station and the motorway.
Although the facility will eventually replace the old one, the existing adoption centre will continue to operate until it is time to relocate to the new building, when the old premises and site will be put up for sale.
The opening of the new centre will be a fun-filled family day starting at 10.30am on 23 November to which Warrington cat lovers are warmly invited.
For those willing to donate - food, tins, packets and boxes can be dropped off at the new centre at Queen Elizabeth Drive, Padgate, WA1 4JQ.
