14th February 2018

With many celebrating Valentine’s Day today, we’re urging people to spare a thought for the many cats that are given up at this time of year.

Over 1,000 cats and kittens are brought to Cats Protection centres and branches in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, with reasons ranging from relationship break-ups and money problems to house moves and even abandonment. With so many unwanted cats in care, we’re appealing for those looking for love to come forward and adopt a perfect pet.

Two cats currently in the care of Cats Protection’s Wolverhampton Branch are Gypsy and Allsorts, who were bought in during Valentine’s Week in 2017. They’ve been waiting almost a year to be homed, and tend to be overlooked in favour of more confident cats in the charity’s care.

The branch is hoping to find them a quiet home with an owner who can help them feel settled and secure. Both cats love a bit of play, especially with a fishing rod toy.

Charity spokesman Zahir White said: “Cats, like people, have different quirks and personalities and added to this, they are loyal, fun and loving – so what better time of year to pick a new best friend than Valentine’s Day?”
