Award Categories

The awards have the following categories (please click the links below to discover more about each category)

Please remember, these examples are just to give you an idea of possible nominations; feel free to nominate for any volunteer activities that you think deserve particular recognition.


Bright Ideas Award

This award is for those volunteers who have developed original and exciting ways of solving problems or addressing challenges. For example, you may know a volunteer who:

  • uses inspired ways to home difficult cats or manage feral colonies
  • carries out innovative fundraising activities
  • has led a pioneering neutering campaign
  • has some up with imaginative ideas for getting their charity shop noticed

Unsung Hero Award

This award specifically recognises those volunteers who often play a vital role behind the scenes and, while they may have no ‘official’ role, their input is crucial to Cats Protection’s success. For example, you may know a volunteer who:

  • repairs cat pens or does general DIY to help out
  • stuffs envelopes or provides administrative support
  • collects goods or processes bric-a-brac for a shop or stall
  • drives the van, delivers food, does vet runs or collects traps

Flying the Flag Award

This award is for those volunteers who have made a significant contribution to raising awareness of Cats Protection and its aims and values. For example, you may know a volunteer who:

  • gives particularly inspirational talks to the general public
  • has run a very successful publicity campaign
  • provides a brilliant information service and helpline
  • raises the profile of Cats Protection or cats through their charity shop

The Extra Mile Award

This award is for those volunteers who are noted for their enthusiasm and dedication and who are known for going above and beyond the call of duty. For example, you may know a volunteer who:

  • is always available to provide round-the-clock care to cats in need
  • covers huge areas or travels great distances
  • is out and about in all weathers
  • provides emergency help and assistance

Trustees’ Distinguished Service Award

This is a separate award for those volunteers that have shown an incredible level of commitment, sometimes over many years. For example, you may know a volunteer who:

  • has overcome major personal obstacles to achieve goals
  • deals with difficult barriers within their community to accomplish objectives
  • has continued and sustained their dedication throughout many ups and downs
  • has made an outstanding contribution to Cats Protection and feline welfare

The winner of this award will be chosen by the Trustees and will be presented with a special framed certificate and a bronze cat trophy.
