Kieran McErlean of Small Heath was just one of many to find the ‘girl of his dreams’ at the pre-Valentine homing day held on 4 February in Sutton. His first choice was already reserved, but as soon as he saw Scruffy he decided that, with a bit of a clean-up and a new name, she’d do just fine!
So, pending a successful home visit, Kieran, aged 37 and an HGV driver for the Post Office, and his brother Sean, will take over where our faithful fosterers left off. And her new name? “Probably Sophie” says Kieran. He’s had ‘a cat when he was little, then a dog’ and is sure he and his brother, between them, will be able to give Sophie the loving home and the time and attention she deserves.
Over a dozen cats displayed their feline charms at the event, with five being reserved. Says rehoming officer Kerrie Rowson: “All in all a successful day – and held just in time before the snow came down! Some families came along and left their names for when we have the next batch of kittens, so important we get the home visits made in good time. And we did home a few lucky-in-love cats just prior to the event via enquiries to the website.
“Sadly, one gorgeous girl, Lily, found starving in Great Barr and fed for months by Acorns charity shop staff, is perhaps our keenest cat just now desperately seeking love and didn’t tempt a new owner on the day. Lewis too, a lovely big boy we’ve been fostering for months. It’s a pity they can’t pal-up and look after each other!”
