With the release of Puss in Boots in cinemas this weekend, we're hoping to capitalise on the likely surge in demand for cats as pets to re-home some of our many strays.
NBCP Homing officer Kerrie Rowson commented, "We'd love to find some willing owners for the cats in our care. However, it's important that we find these cats homes for life, so they won't be looking for love again after the novelty wears off.”
Many Cats Protection branches close their doors to adopters in December, to discourage the giving of cats as gifts, as many cats find themselves back on the streets in January. However, by carrying out home visits to every potential adopter we do all we can to they are committed to giving a cat the care and attention it needs.
“We'd rather our cats spent Christmas snuggled up in front of a fire with a new family than in one of our foster pens, so we are hoping the film leads to some genuine homing opportunities,” Kerrie continues.
The Shrek spin-off stars Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots, with Salma Hayak as his love-interest, the cat burglar Kitty Softpaws. We have our very own Puss and Kitty look-a-likes ready for homing now - just check out our adopt a cat pages.
We'll also be can-shaking at the Empire Cinema in Sutton Coldfield to raise some much-needed funds. Our volunteers will be out in force around Puss in Boots show-times, dressed as cats, to give the kids an extra treat and raise money so our foster cats can have a special Christmas.
