Garden Party
How about holding a Paws Outdoors Party?
This can be as large or small as you like. Invite your friends and family for an afternoon of tea and scones or a barbecue or just to enjoy your garden with you.
You could ask your guests for a donation. You could also run a croquet or boules competition – charge teams an entrance fee and the winners get a prize.
Alternative Garden Party
If your workplace suffers from a lack of green space, why not dress up the indoors to look like the outdoors?
Organise an indoor picnic in your staffroom or canteen and tempt your colleagues with homemade cakes and biscuits.
This is a good opportunity to catch up with everyone while raising funds for Cats Protection. A raffle, quiz or auction will bring in even more money.
Sports Day
A sports day is an excellent opportunity to make the most of the outdoors.
You could ask people to make a donation to watch the proceedings, while a stall selling refreshing drinks and ice cream for the budding athletes is sure to bring in some funds!
Another idea is to hold a sports tournament. Why not get your work colleagues to set up sports teams, charge an entrance fee and have an inter-departmental competition, or boys against girls? Cat costumes are optional!
Street Party
A street party is a great way of making the most of the outdoors and getting lots of people involved in the cause.
However, planning issues and permits are a big consideration and you should always contact your local council as a first step. They will be able to advise you with regards necessary permits and licensing.
Also make sure you speak to your neighbours about the plans; you may find some of them would be willing to help you plan the event! You will need lots of tables and chairs so you could ask around and see if anyone has some you could borrow. Cats Protection can supply bunting, posters and balloons which you can use to decorate.
As well as providing food and drink, you could arrange for other activities like face painting, pin the tail on the cat and balloon modelling to bring in some more money. With a bit of forward planning, a street party is a great way to fundraise, raise awareness and meet new people.
Book Club
This could be as large or small as you want. Ask for a donation to be involved in the book group.
Get together a group of friends and decide on a book. A cat-themed publication would be great!
Once everyone has finished the book, organise a garden party and discuss the book over a glass of iced tea and some nibbles.
If it is successful, you could try and carry the event on after Paws Outdoors has finished!
Teddy Bears’ Picnic
A teddy bears’ picnic is a great way to get children and young families involved in fundraising for Cats Protection.
You could make the event as big or small as you like and it would work really well in schools or youth groups.
You could charge an entrance fee per teddy bear and put on a spread as well as organising games, crafts and competitions. Prizes could include teddy bear sweets!
You could even incorporate a teddy bear-themed treasure hunt or guess the name of the teddy competition.
