A guide to our hands-free homing process

We’re keen to help as many cats as possible, offering our cats a home will help to free up more space to take in emergency cases.

We can offer homing via a hands-free homing. We have in place procedures to enable carefully controlled rehoming without putting people at undue risk of infection, and without a negative effect on cat welfare. We'll be ensuring that all our cats are matched with potential owners who can provide the environment and lifestyle required by each individual cat. You'll find desriptions and photos of the cats in their profiles to help you decide which one might be for you.  We can also arrange face to face viewings of the majority of our cats.

Here is our guide to adopting a cat using hands-free homing

  • Check you are within a reasonable distance of us. You can find your nearest branch by typing in your postcode at www.cats.org.uk/find-us 
  • Enquire.  If you like the look of one of our cats, send us an enquiry via the contact form on the cat's profile page or give us a call on 0345 371 2750. We'll give you a call to take a few more details and discuss the cat and carry out a 'virtual' home visit. If we think the cat might be a good match for your home we'll ask for proof of your address and (if applicable) landlord permission for a cat. Once these have been received, you will then be contacted by the fosterer who will tell you more about the cat and conduct a video call with you or a socially distanced viewing and then, if you’re found to be a match for your chosen cat we'll reserve the cat for you.  In this call, you’ll have a chance to discuss everything you need to know about your cat.
  • Adopt. Once you have reserved your cat, you’ll be sent paperwork to sign and you’ll then pay an adoption fee of £85 for an adult cat and £105 for an unneutered kitten, usually by bank transfer 
  • Bringing your cat home. Once this is finalised, we’ll arrange for you to collect your new cat
  • Be supported. You’ll receive a follow-up call or email after the adoption to check that your new arrival is settled in. You can also find help and advice on the Cats Protection website at www.cats.org.uk/advice

We are looking for good, loving, safe homes for cats and kittens that come into our care. So you can adopt with confidence, all our cats receive a high standard of treatments that a vet would charge you in the region of £200. These include:

  • Vet health check that includes testing for FiV and FeLV

  • Full cost of neutering - kittens can normally be neutered at around 12 weeks old and we will give you a full cost neutering voucher that can be redeemed our vet partners in Peterborough.

  • Flea and worm treatment

  • Micro chipping

  • All vaccinations against Cat Flu, Enteritis and Feline Leukaemia

  • All cats come with 4 weeks insurance from Petplan

Our fees are £85 for adult cats and £105 for kittens. Any other donations contribute to the costs of treatment and help us continue our work.
