If you have thought carefully about adopting a Cats Protection cat and now feel ready to give one a home, it's time to take the next step!
Step 1 - Get in touch
Please contact us and let us know what you are looking for (don't forget to leave your contact details!).
Step 2 - Home Visit
We carry out a home visit to ensure that we find a cat that fits your circumstances. Home visits are also a chance for you to ask questions and discuss the ins and outs of homing a CP cat.
Step 3 - View the cats
Visit the cats and take the opportunity to speak with the fosterer about the cat's personality and ask questions.
Step 4 - Collection day
Once you have had a homing visit, you can collect your kitty! Collection often takes place at the same time as visiting the cat. When you collect, please make sure you have a suitable pet carrier to keep your cat safe on the way home. There is an adoption fee of £50 per cat. Our cat care costs can be in excess of £150 per cat and the more money we receive, the more cats we can help.
Step 5 - Advice and Support
If you have any queries after taking your cat home you can contact us via the 'Contact Us' page on this website or call the branch and leave a message. In emergencies, please call the emergency number which is 07703 877263.
We have four categories of cats for adoption:
Special Needs Cats
We have a number of cats who require additional care. This can be as simple as needing a special diet to having regular veterinary treatments. These are very special cats and require special homes.
Adult Cats (aged one year and over)
There are many reasons why adult cats arrive in our care. Most of our adult cats are mums who came in with their kittens. Adult cats can also be in our care because their owner has died or moved abroad. All adults are fully health checked by our vets, neutered, microchipped and treated for worms and fleas before they are rehomed. Often, older cats are overlooked but they have a lot to offer!
Kittens (aged under one year)
A large number of kittens pass through our care on a regular basis so we cannot show individual pictures in our gallery. Please contact us for information about the kittens we are currently caring for.
Kittens are rehomed from the age of 9 to 12 weeks old depending on circumstances. Cats Protection ensures the kittens have their first vaccination at 9 weeks old. The second vaccination is due at 12 weeks old. If you take your kitten to one of our vets, this vaccination is paid for.
We also ensure kittens are fully health checked by our vets, microchipped and treated for worms and fleas before they are rehomed. All adopters are responsible for ensuring the kitten is neutered at five months old and the cost of this is not included in the £50 adoption fee. It is advisable to keep kittens inside until they have been neutered as male cats can be fertile rom as young as four months old and females can become pregnant as young as five months old.
Each cat adopted comes with four weeks free cat insurance.
Home from Home Cats
Home from Home cats are cats that need to be rehomed but the branch do not have the capacity to bring the cats into foster care and are therefore still living with their owners. Cats need to be rehomed for many reasons and we offer this service to help as much as we can short of taking the cat into care.
Please be aware that if you adopt a home from home cat and things do not work out we cannot bring the cat into care, we can only offer you the home from home service as outlined here. Therefore, please be sure it is the right cat for you before committing to adoption.
