Feral Cats Need a Home Too...

08 October 2012
Feral Cats Need a Home Too... Most felines prefer a life of comfort and are masters of finding the warmest (and softest) spot to relax in but there are those who lead a very different way of life.
Feral cats live and work outdoors.  They need a SAFE OUTDOOR HOME where they can hunt and live independently all year round.

If you have a farm or large garden or perhaps own stables, barns or outhouses  (or maybe you know someone who does),  have you ever thought about having any of our overlooked feral cats as groundskeepers?

Mice and rats are prolific breeders – especially when near abundant food and our feral cats are expert hunters as they’ve had to catch their own food for the majority of their lives.  Unfortunately there aren’t many calories in a mouse so provision of a small amount of regular cat food will improve their energy levels and make them more efficient workers!

Although they use what natural shelter they can find, access to somewhere warm and dry like a stable, small shed or unused dog kennel is ideal and will help to keep them healthy.

You’ll often see a feral cat prowling around its territory but don’t expect it to tame it – they’re highly unlikely to become lap pets as these are WILD animals.  Some will occasionally approach people when they’re hungry but most are very wary of human contact.

Here at Stourbridge, Dudley & Wyre Forest Cats Protection we are always looking for suitable homes for feral cats.  They have all been neutered or spayed and have been given long-term flea & worm treatment as well as inoculations for FIV and FeLV.  We will also supply all the necessary equipment for settling them into their new homes...
