Leaving a gift in your will to Cats Protection? Our suggested wording will help your solicitor to amend your will


With any matter regarding your will, Cats Protection always recommends that you seek professional legal advice, but the following suggested wording will assist your solicitor in drawing up or amending your will.

Residuary gift

The gift of a proportion or the remainder of your estate, after all the other gifts have been allocated and all costs have been paid. This type of gift is often particularly valuable to a charity like Cats Protection as its value will increase in line with the value of your estate.

I give (… %) of the residue of my estate both real and personal to Cats Protection, National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, Haywards Heath RH17 7TT, Registered charity number 203644 (England and Wales) and SC037711 (Scotland), for their general purposes and the receipt of the proper officer of the charity shall be sufficient discharge for my Trustees.

Leaving a gift to a branch or centre

I give all (or a share of) the residue of my estate to Cats Protection (Registered Charity Numbers 203644/SC03771) of the National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, Haywards Heath, Sussex, RH17 7TT absolutely and I express the wish but without creating a legal binding obligation the funds shall be used in the ******* Branch of Cats Protection in pursuit of the objects of Cats Protection BUT IF the branch no longer exists at the date of my death or closes thereafter or cannot for whatever reason spend the funds on the objects of Cats Protection then I DIRECT that the funds be applied in the ******* region or county for the general purposes of the charity.

My Executors should contact Cats Protection, National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, Haywards Heath RH17 7TT, Registered charity number 203644 (England and Wales) and SC037711 (Scotland), to arrange for the care of any cats that I may own at the time of my death.

Once you have done this please ensure you contact us by filling in a Cat Guardians registration form and return it to us so that we can make a note of your wishes.
