Care and rehoming

BobbyBobby

Bobby arrived at Cats Protection’s Shetland Branch after he wandered through the cat flap of a volunteer’s home. Underweight and scruffy with two thirds of his ears missing, it appeared he had been living rough for some time.

Bobby was taken to the adoption centre where he was diagnosed with a flea allergy that had caused the damage to his ears; we can only imagine the suffering he must have been going through as a stray. The vet also diagnosed heart and kidney problems and a cataract in one eye.

After being rid of the fleas causing him irritation, Bobby was put on medication and, after months of attention, began to cope well with his condition. He has since found a new home in which to spend his twilight years and is enjoying the care and attention he missed out on while homeless.

Thanks to kind legacies left in people’s wills, we are able to give more cats just like Bobby that second chance in life that they deserve.

Tommy

Tommy curled upTommy came into the care of our Northampton Branch after his elderly owner passed away. He had been with her all of his life – around 12 years – and nobody in the family wanted him. Bereft, nervous and withdrawn, he was not used to strange people, noise or other cats. In addition he had obviously suffered some trauma in his earlier life which had resulted in the loss of his tail.

In his Cat Cabin, Tommy gradually learned to trust his Fosterer and became used to being without his owner. Being older and without a tail, he wasn’t the easiest cat to rehome and spent several weeks hiding and ‘grumbling’ in his cabin.

Then came a change of fortune. A lady who had just lost her old ginger puss came to see Tommy and loved him at first sight. She could not take him home immediately so he spent a little more time in his comfy cabin. Eventually the big day came and Tommy settled into his new home very well, purring loudly all through his first evening. Tommy’s stay in his cabin helped him to adjust to losing his old home and regain his confidence before going to a new one. He is now king in his new garden, seeing off all strangers and regularly patrolling the boundaries.
