Working together. For cats. For survivors.

Do you need support? Contact our Lifeline team or Refuge here.

We share a special bond with our pet cats.

They may bring us joy with their antics, provide us with comfort, and be a loyal companion through life’s ups and downs. Put simply, cats are part of our family.

However, when your world has been turned upside down by domestic abuse, cat owners can face an agonising dilemma.
It’s common for perpetrators to target cats and kittens as a way to coerce and control their loving owners.

But many refuges are simply unable to accept pets. Because of this, some victim-survivors may find it harder to leave for fear of what may happen to their loyal companions.

How we're working together with Refuge

That’s why our Lifeline team works closely with charities like Refuge, the largest specialist domestic abuse organisation in England.

By working together, we’re empowering cat owners by making sure they have access to the support they need on their journey to finding safety from domestic abuse.

Using our dedicated network of volunteer cat fosterers, our Lifeline team arrange temporary, loving homes for cats until their owners are able to take them back to safety.

This, alongside the life-changing support available from charities like Refuge, gives survivors the chance to get back on their feet, knowing they will be together again with their beloved pet cat soon.

Refuge interim CEO, Abigail Ampofo:

“We’re proud to partner with Cats Protection Lifeline. Knowing their cats will be taken care of provides much needed reassurance to survivors at a critical moment in seeking safety for themselves and their children.”

“There will always be a million reasons not to leave, and it's so incredibly brave that you want to, to take the step into being safe. The thought of having to leave without my cats was devastating, but then I found Lifeline, and we made it out, we're safe. If you're looking for a sign that you can make it out the other side of whatever it is you're going through? Let my story be your sign. You are so incredibly strong and brave, I promise there's hope to be found.”
