We arrived at Hurst Park near Hampton Court Palace at 11am ready for our 25km trek. It was grey, wet and miserable! We knew this would be a challenge to keep motivated along the way. As we rounded the trees, two huge marquees with buzzing music, an inflatable start line and hundreds of people came in to view. It was just the jolly up we needed. There was plenty of food and hot drinks which kept us warm until our midday start time. And we were off…
Despite the miserable grey day the views along the Thames Path were absolutely breath-taking, let alone the stunning properties and gardens which lined the banks of the river. There were rowers, kayakers, fishermen and walkers to say a friendly hello to or give us a wave of support. The atmosphere was amazing and we met some fantastic fellow fundraisers. There was even one lovely gentleman in the rain in his garden giving people a warm drink as we passed.
We felt a little lazy watching the walkers and runners going past with 50 or 100km on their numbers but 25km was enough of a challenge for the two of us, my dad in his 60s and me a novice trekker. I can honestly say I loved it and I am signing up for the sister event The South Coast challenge next year! Will you join me?
