Skippy

Skippy

Adopted knowing her time would be short! (or so we thought!)

My first memory of Skippy is a tiny twelve-week-old kitten, small for her age, full of energy and stunning amber eyes – eyes that melted my heart. Her mother came with her – neither had been handled by humans despite being domestic cats – so what I had on my hands was an adult “Miss Hissy Spitty” and a mini clone!

Time went on, both slowly started to trust, both finally accepted humans weren’t so bad after all. Mum (Paula) found a wonderful home and has now settled – even finding out a lap is pretty good. Skippy was ahead of her and took to my lap as soon as she was adopted at nine months old. Leading up to Skippy’s adoption was the discovery that she has a serious heart condition that is inoperable. The next hurdle was would spaying be possible – in short – no, the strain on her heart would be too much for her to survive. After chatting to friends, a query was raised – if a dog could have medication to stop going into season – could a cat? Yes, for short-term use, it was an option. Skippy went on the pill!

Shortly after that is when Skippy became one of my gang – she loves the outdoors, other cats and comes up onto my lap after breakfast each day for a cuddle and paddle purring her little head off. Skippy has the life-style of many other cats which is all I had ever asked for her – to be able to feel grass under her paws, chase flies, play and know how much love a human can give.

As I write this Skippy has been unwell (as any other cat may be) but she fights on, and is now on the mend. I would not change any part of my time with Skippy – she is a borrowed angel.

 Skippy update

Skippy has now reached 5yrs of age. She has recovered from her previous illness & is still continuing to amaze us. Although her heart condition is ever present she seems to be the only one not noticing it. We can but hope she remains fit & continues enjoying her life with us to the full.
