Success Stories- The Fish Hut Cats and Colin
Colin joined us five years ago when we had three rescue cats, all females, a tabby, a black & white and a tabby with a white tummy. He was such an angel, (see below right), so tiny and one of the prettiest cats I've ever met! While he was small, he used to curl up on my
husband's palm and fall to sleep. He was so adorable that the nurse at the vets joked that they were going to keep him! It seemed that Colin thought that Charlie (the all-tabby female) was his mum and he tried so hard to get her attention by fluttering his angelic eyes but unfortunately Charlie responded by smacking him with her paw.
It was Cleo, the black and white female who became the loving step-mother to Colin. It was so sweet to see her grooming and cleaning Colin, sleeping together huddled up with each other. Colin has since grown into a rather dandy gentleman, (see left) he challenges Charlie to boxing matches. he usually wins as he has grown so much and is bigger than Charlie. Sadly, Cleo passed away at the age of 14. Having
lost her, we felt we wanted to fill that great space she used to take, so we decided to adopt another kitten from Mrs.
Cook at Woking CP and so the story of the fish hut cats begins.
It was almost a year ago that five kittens were rescued from a fishing hut in Wraysbury. There were five tabby brothers, two of which were short-haired and three long-haired. We (my hubby and I) both prefer short-haired and we arrived at Heather's to choose one of the two kittens. This proved impossible as they were IDENTICAL! (see below right) Obviously, there was only one solution and this was to adopt both of them.
My husband is a professional drummer so I decided that their names should be something to do with drums whilst also signifying their bond as twin brothers. And so they became known as 'Shuffle' and 'Beat'. On taking the two kittens to the vets for neutering we received a phone call from a confused nurse who could not tell the difference between them!
Shuffle (below) seems to be the elder brother and always takes the lead with the rather timid Beat (left) following close behind. Shuffle thinks he is Spiderman and scales the concrete wall but Beat is rather a 'mummy's boy' and prefers to have tummy tickles. He mews and purrs and lies on his back with his paws in the air to encourage me to give him the attention he craves.
In the meantime, Colin has become very fond of the twins and assumes the role of step-dad. He checks where they are and gives them a bit of a wash now and then. Once again, Charlie has become the focus of attention with Beat clearly believing her to be a potential step-mum. As before, Charlie gives Beat every indication that she is not interested yet Beat still perseveres.
